The String Orchestra of Brooklyn returns to Roulette for String Theories 2026, our annual concert of (mostly) 21st-century music for strings. This year we explore Penderecki’s blisteringly intense Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima alongside three recent works for large string ensemble that inhabit a similar sound world, from Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood’s directly Penderecki-inspired Popcorn Superhet Receiver, to Sarah Hennies’s grindingly intense Falling Together, to Aveilut, music of mourning from the avant-metal band Scarcity frontman Brendon Randall-Myers.
