String Theories: Brooklyn, 2027

If Basel, 1947 looks back at one model for how an orchestra can create new repertoire, this concert brings that idea into the SOB’s own 20-year history.

Leilehua Lanzilotti, Scott Wollschleger, and Christopher Cerrone are the three composers with whom we have worked most often. Each has written for the SOB before; each relationship has developed across multiple projects, performances, and years. It felt fitting that all three would be part of this milestone season.

The SOB premieres a new work by each composer. The concert celebrates commissioning as something larger than the arrival of a single new piece: a way for an orchestra and composer to learn one another over time, and for new music to grow out of that relationship. Eighty years after Sacher assembled his 1947 program, we offer our own version of that continuing practice.

Tickets will be sold through the Roulette website and will be available closer to the date.
